"Understated" explores the idea of being presented or expressed in a subtle and effective way. Rather than relying on bold statements, the collection emphasizes thoughtful construction, refined tailoring, and functional design. Its more expressive elements are introduced subtly through considered details, utilitarian features, and carefully placed pops of color.
Released in two parts, "Understated" culminated in presentations at Brightspot 2022 and Urban Sneakers Society (USS) 2022. In total, collection consists of 16 pieces. The first drop introduces an earthy palette of brown, green, black, and white. A clean and understated foundation. The second release gradually expands the visual language with plaid patterns, vibrant orange accents, and glossy gunmetal finishes, adding contrast while staying true to the collection's restrained character.
Tailoring takes center stage throughout the collection. A standout blazer features corset-inspired detailing at the back, creating a sculpted silhouette that accentuates the contrast between broad shoulders and a defined waist. Flared trousers further reinforce the collection's strong, elongated proportions, balancing structure with fluidity.
Versatility is another defining element. A modular tiered skirt can be styled in multiple ways, encouraging personal expression through adaptability. Another highlight is a stacked skirt with a double waistband and layered pleated details, adding depth and dimension through subtle construction details.
Remaining true to BLANC STUDIO's design language, utilitarian pockets appear across many pieces, serving as both a functional feature and a recognizable design signature. "Understated" demonstrates that impactful design doesn't have to be constantly loud. Sometimes, the strongest statement is made through restraint.
